Hey y'all!! Tryin' to find someone who's going to TAKS [Traditional Arctic Kayak Symposium ] - San Simeon This October 16-18 ... and already has a campsite. I'm (**correction: DEBRA AND I ARE *** ) considering going up for the tail end and would like to be a 2nd car (no tent space needed) at a campsite (the campground is full!).

Okay, so this is what I have learned about TAKS:
It is at San Simeon SP and in October the campsite is a first come-first served no reservation possible State Park. Last year there were plenty of extra campsites. This year there is some concern that the park may close due to lack of state funds. We will have to wait and see.
At this point we have been encouraged to just show up (if it hasn't closed) and either get our own site, or someone will take us in for the night!

I'm thinking about it, but I'm not sure and I don't have a campsite either!! sueb

Sometime in October the campground goes to first come, first served for their campsites. At least that is what I have been told. But that may not matter if this state park is on the list for closure by the state to save money. Won't know until later this month and until then ReserveAmerica is not taking any reservations for State Parks in California. Again, that is what I was told. If that happens, TAKS will have to schedule their weekend somewhere else. Stay tuned...

I decided I'm going to skip TAKS, but I'm definitely going to the Golden Gate symposium
